The story :
If you travel a few kilometers from Sami village towards Antisamos beach, you'll come across a signpost marking the way to a remarkable site. This is the monastery, established in the 18th century at the exact location where two shepherds and their maid discovered the miraculous icon of Theotokos in 1722.
Upon finding the icon, these individuals chose to embrace a monastic lifestyle. The initial team of the monastery consisted of the monks Gabriel and Simon, along with the nun Pelagia. Their unwavering dedication transformed the monastery into a place of worship and led to the expansion of its property. Notably, Ag. Kosmas the Aetolian delivered sermons here during his journey through Sami. To commemorate his visit, a small chapel was erected just outside the monastery's courtyard.
The monastery holds two significant celebrations each year. On August 15th, devotees from all corners of the island gather to commemorate the Dormition of Theotokos. Additionally, on the 24th of the same month, the feast of Ag. Kosmas the Aetolian is celebrated.
The panoramic vistas from the monastery encompass breathtaking views of Antisamos beach, as well as the surrounding areas of Sami, Agia Efimia, and Ithaca island.
